Classes for the Community -
With the Community
Maintaining strength and flexibility is essential for preserving quality of life as we age. It is important to listen to your body and take a proactive approach to your health. The well-known phrase “use it or lose it” remains highly relevant.
Research supports the benefits of Pilates, joint mobility work, resistance training, stretching, and activities that promote brain plasticity. These forms of exercise have been shown to contribute positively to overall health and wellbeing. A holistic approach is key—we all need to actively support both our physical health and cognitive function.
Classes are mat-based and incorporate posture and body awareness, light weights, balance training, and the use of Chi or Pilates balls (provided).
Friday morning sessions offer some variety, incorporating coordination and gentle aerobic movements as part of the warm-up.
Class times
Monday 5.45 pm - 6.45 pm
Friday 9.15 am - 10.15 am
Cost $10 per class.
At the end of financial year, the total cost of the classes is donated to worthwhile and not-for-profit organisations within the community, chosen to reflect the needs of the community. Many of the Fit & Focused members volunteer or have a special connection with these organisations.
meet your instructor
Deb Harrison (OAM) is a highly experienced physiotherapist with over 40 years of practice in the local area, working extensively in private practice.
More than 37 years ago, she established community fitness classes at following completion of a Fitness Leaders course at TAFE. These classes were created as a way of giving back to the community—offering affordable, accessible exercise while donating proceeds to local charities, chosen by participants.
In 2012, Deb further expanded her expertise by completing a Certificate IV in Mat Pilates. As a result, her classes now incorporate a strong Pilates focus, supported by her extensive physiotherapy knowledge and experience.

Deb has a long-standing personal commitment to health and fitness. She has represented at both State and Masters level in netball, and now enjoys cycling, regularly participating in the Tour Down Under. Outside of her professional work, she enjoys spending time at the beach and gardening.
Fit & Focussed was featured on ABC News as part of a segment on ageing in South Australia, aired on 11 December 2019.

For classes, you will need to bring your own mat and hand weights. Pilates balls are supplied, with a small cost to purchase your own.
